Superior Boiler, to Demonstrate Latest Production Techniques during October 6 Manufacturing Day Celebration

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Sept. 27, 2017) – To recognize Manufacturing Day on Oct. 6, Superior Boiler, will open its doors to the public and demonstrate its cutting-edge manufacturing processes. This is Superior’s second consecutive year to participate in Manufacturing Day.

The nationwide Manufacturing Day celebration is meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

“The nation faces a shortage of manufacturing workers, despite the fact that manufacturing careers offer good wages and interesting work,” said Superior Boiler CEO Doug Wright. “One of our goals in hosting a Manufacturing Day event is to help people of all ages – especially younger workers – understand the opportunities available in a manufacturing career. The Manufacturing Day event we hosted last year was a tremendous success, and we look forward to an even better event this year.”

Those who visit Superior Boiler on Manufacturing Day will see:

  • Plasma cutting of steel prior to assembly
  • Rolling of steel into pressure vessels by a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) plate roll machine
  • Superior’s new CNC Bridge Mill Machining Center
  • Pressure vessel welding operations
  • Placement of boiler tubing into pressure vessels
  • Final boiler assembly processes
  • Finished products after painting

“Community members rarely have the chance to get an inside look at manufacturing,” Wright said. “Our Oct. 6 Manufacturing Day event gives people a chance to see how we do what we do.”

Superior Boiler, located at 3524 E. 4th Ave., will be open for tours on Manufacturing Day from 10 a.m. to noon. The company requires those wishing to tour the facility make advance reservations by calling 620-662-6693 by 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. Personal Protective Equipment, including safety glasses and hearing protection, will be required and provided. Persons planning to tour also should not wear sandals, flip-flops or any other open shoes.

Opening their doors on Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers an opportunity to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of manufacturing’s public image and ensure the ongoing prosperity of American industry. The rallying point for a growing mass movement, Manufacturing Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges in order to help their communities and future generations thrive.

Nationwide, the co-producers of Manufacturing Day are the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International; the National Association of Manufacturers; the Manufacturing Extension Partnership; and the Manufacturing Institute.
