HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Oct. 17, 2025) – Superior Boiler, a world-class manufacturer of industrial and commercial boilers, has donated a new Arrowhead firebox boiler and blowdown separator to Hutchinson’s historic Hutchinson Fox Theatre. The new boiler, which replaces a previous Osage unit that had been in service since December 1991, ensures the continued comfort and functionality of this beloved community landmark.
Superior Boiler also manufactured the previous Osage firebox boiler. The unit was donated to the Fox Theatre during the venue’s decade-long fundraising and restoration campaign in the early 1990s. That gift proved incredibly impactful at the time, not only because of the equipment itself but also because it brought heightened awareness to the restoration effort and inspired other local businesses to offer their support.
While the new Arrowhead boiler will provide the same capacity and low-pressure steam design as the previous Osage boiler did, it is not the same model. The updated unit reflects advancements in boiler technology, offering the same capacity in a smaller design. This compact design fits through a standard 36-inch door, offering easier installation of the unit. The Arrowhead also enhances energy efficiency compared to the previous Osage unit, offering long-term cost-saving benefits for the Fox Theatre.
Superior Boiler’s donation also includes a matching blowdown separator. The blowdown separator helps safely cool and depressurize dirty boiler water to allow safe disposal of impurities, helping to maintain efficiency of the boiler while improving the lifespan. The equipment had not been previously required. However, the local regulations have changed to require the equipment with the new boiler.

The Fox Theatre, a nationally recognized historic landmark, has been a cornerstone of arts and entertainment in Hutchinson since its grand opening in 1931. Steam heat has powered the building since its inception, highlighting the critical role reliable boiler systems have played throughout its history. The theatre now welcomes approximately 40,000 patrons each year for a wide variety of events, including concerts, films, corporate gatherings and community celebrations.
Designated the “State Movie Palace of Kansas” by the Kansas Legislature, the Fox Theatre holds a proud place on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places. This donation reflects Superior Boiler’s ongoing commitment to supporting local institutions and ensuring the continued preservation of Hutchinson’s historic landmark.
